25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIFICATION CHURCH REVEREND SUN MYUNG MOON May 1, 1979 Belvedere, New York Translator - Sang Kil Han This morning is the first day of May, and it also happens to be the Labor Day commemorated by the communist countries. Although the Unification Church was founded in Korea, it was not begun for a local purpose, but with a religious meaning for the worldwide dispensation. A drop of water can originate deep in the mountains and trickle down the hillside, gathering with others and becoming a brook, then a river, and finally join the ocean, and in that way travel around the world. Yet when we look at water we don't speculate about which nation it belongs to or came from; it is a part of the world. Though water may land in Korea. it can go anywhere in the world. The same is true of the air, which also circulates and moves around. Aren't people like that as well? We know that though water may become dirty at some point, it is purified again as it moves from place to place and can unite with other water. The same thing can he said for human life. Men mingle and mix culturally, and out of this can come something good which will advance and elevate all people. This also happens in religious development. At first a few people gather, like drops of water from different mountains. Then more will come together and a river will form, then the ocean, all the time enhancing man's standard. When we think back on human history, we can clearly see that man's history has been one of war. Has human civilization advanced or regressed as a result? We can roughly say that it has developed. The religious and non-religious person also clash. Both of them are determined to win, and as a result of the conflict all their rough places will be rounded off and the undesirable aspects perish' leaving the desirable things to rise to the surface. Russia and America may seem to be at peace for the time being, but no one can deny that internally they have great conflict with each other. Wars are fought on every level. between individuals, between families, societies, and nations. War has now reached the world scale, such that if war started today almost no one would be left out. If there are two boxers fighting in a ring but there is no referee and no one is paying attention, they feel miserable. When will their fighting end? It will just go on and on. When both are tired after a long fight, they will get together to negotiate their own rules. Under those circumstances, once they finish the fight and a winner is declared, the loser will have no deep grudge or complaint. If the loser complains after having lost according to the rules, he is the one to be blamed, not the victorious fighter who didn't complain. If the world is going to get caught up in fighting, will it be with or without a referee? Who will the referee be? Whenever children fight, they always come to their parents to ask them to be the judge. If children fight in the classroom, they go to their teacher. On every level this is so. Even in a small village there is always someone to be the judge or referee of a fight, and in national affairs it is the same. If the world were caught up in fighting and there were no one to be the judge, it would be very difficult to continue living. If brothers and sisters in the Unification Church have a conflict then eventually they have to come to me for a solution. We can say that the law is not intended to adjust evil things but to adjust good things, and if we can find nothing to mediate conflicts on the world scale, we must create one somehow. The person who says he will never compromise his stand has obviously never fought in a war. If someone feels he cannot compromise on which school he will attend but then he is refused admission to that particular school, he will have a difficult time adjusting. The only way to be admitted is to meet the requirements, so you must study them if you want to get in. When the time comes you must take examinations and follow the rules; you cannot insist on using your book if it is not allowed. The universe follows specific rules, without exception. Are you consciously aware of breathing all the time? Have you ever counted how many times you bat your eyelashes? If there is even a small particle in your nose or eye, however, you notice immediately and take action. You know it is abnormal and take steps to remedy it. If something tickles one of the little hairs on your arm, your nervous system is immediately alerted and your respond. If everyone on earth knew about a world war in progress, wouldn't God know as well? Once people are involved in a conflict they want their side to win, but after the battle begins they have to fight in accordance with the agreed-upon rules. Even after war starts some citizens, even the president, may not want to fight at all, but once it is proclaimed then no one can decide he is exempt and not participate. If no one will tight then their side will lose and be overrun, leaving the enemy country to dictate what should be done to them. If you refuse to fight until the enemy soldiers march into your living room then you have no more choice about what happens to you. In war time there is little mercy and the enemy will run you out. Human history has witnessed two great world wars. In 1945, one bomb, dropped on one city, killed 250,000 people instantly and there was not even time to feel pain; it was instant death. God certainly knows when such a war is being fought, so which side would God take in such a war, the side which fought the war according to regulations or without? It is likely that both sides will ignore the rules to some extent, but the question is who fought in the most lawless, inhuman way. Does it appear today that the communists are violating more laws, or the democratic nations? How did the second World War begin? Did people agree to fight each other, or was there one group which arranged or instigated the fighting? In World War 11 it was obvious who fought in the least decent way; Hitler purposely killed many non-military people during that war-among them 6,000,000 Jews-and the Japanese mercilessly killed civilians in the Pacific during World War II. These are elements which God considers. When God compares the communist world and democratic world, He will side with the realm which is less guilty of inhuman deeds. We can assume that in a world war God will support the fairer side and afterward raise it up to be the leader of the world. Korea and Israel both won their independence after World War 11, and they share a similar history of suffering. The victorious side is usually the more just of the two, but now thirty years after World War II we see that without exception these victorious countries are declining. Why? Naturally God continued to observe them after the war ended, and if there is more to blame than to be praised then He leave those countries and not give them His assistance any more. There is always a reason for a country's decline, but citizens hardly ever realize the reason for what is happening. I have an explanation for why England and America are declining today, even though they won World War II: They failed to promote goodness after the war. God has turned away from America to support people who show a higher standard of goodness than this country. Even to a layman's point of view, President Carter always seems to do that which benefits the communists. The public notices this and will support him less and less. It is not hard to imagine that God and Satan will arrange the sides like teams, with the tree world and communist world confronting each other. Is the tree world dominant today, or the communist world? Shall the free world acknowledge its decline and give up, or brace itself up and stop drug usage and immorality in order to win over the threat of communism? We can reason that when the two sides fight, something good will remain and something undesirable be weeded out. If that is always a result of war then we can apply this principle to situations today. God's purpose in all of this is for mankind to create better and better unity, and from out of all that confusion one champion can be selected on the worldwide scale who can demonstrate his ability to the maximum. It stands to reason that God will choose one champion to represent all levels, and events will be driven in his direction. If that champion represents both man's world and the spirit world, would he tend to be religious or not? It is logical that God would choose a religious person in this role who is capable of influencing even non-religious people to change. This is what God had to do after World War II; He had to find someone who could move the world in the direction of religious unity. It is a new phenomenon since World War II to see such a group emerging. The world atmosphere after World War II was such that a strong religious movement was likely to happen. The time had come for this, like a cosmic season in the trend of history, and the Unification Church appeared in Korea to begin this task. God's chosen individual was supposed to do something which no one in history had ever achieved, and no matter how great the odds against him might be, that person had to fight for justice. By winning, this person would be in a position to judge what is right and wrong on the world scale and no one will be exempt from that judgment. These events will encompass all of the earth and spirit world, without exception. If everyone had accepted that standard of goodness earlier then God would never have allowed Korea to be divided, nor Germany. There would have been no reason for conflict to continue there, nor even between the communist and democratic worlds as a whole. Human history would have been consummated at that time. Then all creation would only struggle over love until one standard of love was agreed upon. If God erred in the standard of love, then all mankind and creation would point it out to Him and even God would have to admit it. All creation can be regulated only by the law of love, and once it is established every problem will be solved, without exception. What kind of war has the Unification Church been fighting? It has been fighting according to the criterion of love; we fight for justice which conforms with the law of love on every level. Even on the national and world scale, we insist that nations and races must not fight each other, no matter what. Our Japanese, British and German members are coming to America and saying, "I love you," but Americans are skeptical that this is possible. Nevertheless, our members do impossible things and come from all angles to reach a person in love, changing him into a loving instead of a hating person. Does the Unification Church fight? What is your weapon? How long do we have to tight? We have to fight to the end, to such an extent that God can say we are like Him. Eventually even our enemies must say, "Yes, you have won," and beg us to stop. We have to go on fighting until our enemy recognizes that we are victorious. They will be thankful we have won because once they understand love they will see that even though they seem to have lost they too have actually won. I am fighting to promote love, even though everyone is against me. Why should people hate me? I have started the greatest war imaginable, coming to fill the world with love. We can deduce one principle here: God will certainly notice and take steps to inhibit the person who tries to block such a movement of love. It is only a matter of time until he inevitably declines, and so will any country in the same position. What if Christians around the world oppose I such a movement of love? Do you agree that the - opponent of a person fighting the war of love has to I be defeated? What about people who lived 1,000 years ago, how would they feel? What about people 1,000 years from now, will they have the same opinion? How would God feel, who has existed for all time and will exist billions of years from now? It is easy to understand logically that God will write His constitution to protect love; love itself may be the constitution and He will personally work to preserve it. Is your home church work a war too? A war of what? It is a struggle over who will love the most, a war in which you will win over evil or evil will win over you. There are children who love their parents very much, but if you have more love than the parents do, then you will gradually bring the children out into the heavenly circle. A husband and wife may love each other very much, but the love which comes from God will be even stronger, and gradually the husband or wife will be drawn away from the other to come to God's side. You have to have love of such absolute power. A spectator might think that I am saying this because I belong to the Unification Church. My reply is that I wonder if this is possible for you, even within the Unification Church; what do you think? Are you going to get blessing first or get love first? As long as you have love you don't have to worry about the blessing because it will just come to you. On the other hand, no matter how much blessing you have now, without love it will all dissipate. So don't worry about blessing until you have worried about love. What are you doing, you people who come here early Sunday after Sunday? You are now being trained to tight the fiercest war so you can be champions who can take beating after beating and still win. There will be no greater war in the future than the one being fought now, and I am fighting for that cause. What would happen if I said to God that I was going to call off the fight and give up the love He has been promoting? Would God give His approval, or would He go berserk and not know what to do? God is quite dependent on me, and to make sure I won't leave, God would give me an even bigger bundle of blessing. Are you applauding now because what I said was true, or because it would mean the Unification Church, and therefore you, would also prosper? Are you applauding absolute love itself, or calculating as the Unification Church gets bigger you will go higher? If you applauded for love itself, then you passed the examination. With this understanding the conclusion is very simple. No matter how long a person has prospered, he will plummet down if he opposes God's champion in the war of love. If the rich nation of America opposes that champion then it will tumble, in even less than ten years. There is no other alternative in God's dispensation. If the communists oppose the Unification Church movement, they will decline also. Since God has utmost wisdom, He knows the best way to carry out the dispensation. When a country or a person perishes this way, what happens to his blessing? It will be given to the Unification Church instead. You now know a valuable secret here of how to get blessing by the dozen-let people persecute you but overcome it all. The more you are persecuted, the more blessing will come, so you can be eager to be opposed. That is our deepest pride. Those who agree, raise your hands. In the future will you continue to work for what you believe in and be persecuted? If the free world had recognized the Unification Church when it was first founded then there would be no reason for the free world to be in the chaos it is now. If the Korean people and government had welcomed me in 1945 then North and South Korea would not have been divided, nor would Germany have been divided; neither would the Christianity that God nurtured tor 2,000 years have declined. People still do not know why the Christianity that was so painfully built on a foundation of blood and sacrifice has recently declined so much in such a short time. On the other hand, the Unification Church has been struck hard but has grown and grown, day after day, like bamboo after the rain. The spirit world yearns for true love to be established and so does God, so whoever opposes this love could not possibly have a chance to survive. In that respect are you grateful to be a member of the Unification Church? Now that I have explained all this to you, you become strong and confident but were you as confident yesterday as you are now? Yesterday concluded the sixth year since I had been granted permanent residency in this country, and today marks the anniversary of the day the Unification Church was founded. What is the significance of the number seven? It marks the realization of the ideal of love. Why didn't I give you such a grand message as this a long time ago? Today is the appropriate day because this starts my seventh year here. From this moment you will inherit this war of love and you will take over for me. Who among you is glad to inherit that responsibility from me? If you really mean it then I am off the hook now, and I can travel around the world to care for other nations. I have persevered through impossible persecution to see this moment; I have been waiting to see members of all five colors of skin gather here and be happy to inherit this historic blessing. I am not even American so you should love this nation more than me, and I trust that eventually you will. Would you lose an ear for America? Half your nose? Would you become an invalid for the sake of this loved If you are willing to die for the sake of love then you will have no regrets. It may end your physical life, but you will never die. Jesus did not fulfill any part of this, yet the thought he left on earth enabled Christianity to prosper for 2,000 years. If you carry this out now, how many times more than Christianity will this movement prosper in the future? You should be able to feel this most realistically, even though you are sitting on a cold concrete floor. If your legs are hurting then you can realize it is the pain of love. It is not make-believe. This is preparation for love to travel in any direction; that is what you are doing now, preparing for the worldwide scale. When you violate the most basic law you have no chance of surviving. There are many examples of this in history. My first wife wanted me to be an ordinary husband and father and could not see the magnitude of what I was doing. Many families that opposed me have since split up. Even the nation of Korea, which refused to recognize me, was divided into two parts, with no hope of being reunited soon. By the end of the second World War the world was essentially united and communism was not very strong. The United States was practically almighty, but now today it has plummeted. Here in America it is hard to know the reality in other parts of the world, but if you travel abroad you will frequently find a common hope for America to perish, even while those same people still cling to some small hope that America will stand up for righteousness. There is little hope for the many people who lure addicted to drugs, and the immorality in America is staggering, but the communists everywhere are applauding this. No American has cared enough to do something drastic about this problem, but I came all the way from Korea to help. single-handed. In a short time I have raised you to that same standard. I have brought hard-won money to America to spend here, even though this nation is so trig that it is like dumping a bucket of water into a lake. Many hard-won people have come here from Korea and Japan to help. Certainly I did not do this for myself or the Unification Church, yet the response has been accusation that I am trying to brainwash the young people and dominate this country. Probably at some point you felt the same way. didn't you? You may deny it, but didn't you have some reservation inside" You have no complaint whatever about what I say to you? Then if you go full steam ahead America may have hope yet and ten years from now things will be different. You don't want to see just Americans embracing each other, but to see the whites embracing the blacks and all the unfortunate people of the world, loving those people as they love themselves. All the social problems of this country could be solved over-night if all the whites who live in nice houses would willingly trade with people living in the poorest, houses, no questions asked. If people do it willingly I will God say they are foolish? In no time at all such people would find themselves living in better home Since, for obvious reasons, it is not an immediate practical solution. what are the alternatives? That is for you to introduce God's thought into American homes. If so, then some day people will volunteer to live that way. Fashion is unpredictable. you know, so it's not impossible that some day a white person would go to a plastic surgeon to trade noses with a black person. Or to have one black ear and one white ear. I am not saying that should happen, but that some day it just might happen! No one can evade having to lay the individual foundation in this war and gradually extend the foundation of God. The first seven years of my mission were a fight to secure the individual level, but since that time the biggest war on earth has been underway. Now there are many people around me, but there was a time when no one, not the government or the churches or even my first wife, was not persecuting me. Satan was almost all-powerful, and he mobilized everything to stop me, knowing that his world would crumble if I were successful. The height of persecution came in 1955, one year after the Unification Church was founded. The government was determined to eliminate me so they probed and probed, looking for something I had violated, checking our money and all our affairs. They even tried to accuse me of being a communist to justify keeping me in prison. They called me a dictator worse than Hitler, but what had I ever done? Nothing. I just stood firm and endured all of that. After putting me in prison without evidence they had to support their allegations so they investigated every possible thing, but they found nothing wrong, so on October 4 they released me. The first thing I did was to grow stronger. I just prayed for the forgiveness of those who had opposed me and continued working. In 1960 the foundation of my family was established and the next year there was a blessing of 36 couples, then later 72, 124, 430, 777 and 1800. The year I blessed 430 couples was the year 4,300 in Korean history, paralleling the 430 years the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt; it was also the year that the world-level dispensation was launched. The exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt was paralleled by the beginning of the world-level mission. The worldwide exodus centering on the Unification Church began in that year, at the close of the national-level dispensation. In 1965 I blessed 120 holy grounds in 40 nations; as part of that I blessed holy grounds in each state here, as though each was one country. My actual dispensation in America began in that year, for I knew that when America had won in this cosmic war that the whole world would benefit eventually. On this foundation the world could come into blessing on the world level and so in 1970 the 777 couples were blessed, with couples of all races included. Here the earth as well as men had met the condition for world-level blessing. I launched the worldwide dispensation after earth and men were secured. Consequently, our economic work in the Unification Church only began after 1970. Before that I never paid attention to economic things. Now you know the famous rumor that we have endless money and resources! In nine short years we have achieved that much. Keep in mind that the more persecution we get, the more riches we will get. It is difficult to witness to even one person because one person is infinitely precious. Money is coming to the Unification Church, and after that hundreds of thousands of people will follow. If we paid people to come tor three weeks' training, who would refuse ? After the training, more than likely the person would give the money back again so that someone else could be trained. You will invite many people who are leaders and opinion-makers to be in that class. I will invite only leaders, and then other people will criticize me tor not inviting them with a salary too. However, you can tell the people you witnessed to in the past that they had their chance but refused it. You will really feel happy when that day comes, won't you? Those of you who haven't yet passed the fund raising course, raise your hands. Sooner or later you will go to do that. Everyone will go. Would you volunteer to go, or need some push? Am I fund raising now or not? When the departments are out of money they always come to me; when I look at them and ask, "Money?" they reply, "Yes!" The News World is typical. How would you like it if I blessed 3,000 couples this year? I already have almost 3,000 couples engaged now. I am thinking whether I should do it now or wait a couple more years. What do you think? Are you confident that you can be a better warrior in the war of love than the person you marry ? Once you are married you will start a competition and see which one will outdo the other in three years. If the wife wins the race then maybe we will have her stand on the right side at the wedding! That is the equality American women have been fighting tor, isn't it? Would you men feel that you could never submit to r that, even if you lost? I have seen that usually women are more religious, however. I don't want you to go just two hours to your - home church but to pay constant attention to it, going back and forth sixteen times a day if necessary. If the men go twelve times, the women will go fourteen times. Later you will just stay there, not sleeping, but even just standing there. Neither male nor female will l budge for fear of being outdone. You can go on seven-day fasts together. Don't you think the home church people will come to stare and see what is happening? You won't have to visit them because they will visit you first! When they come to find out what is going on you can give a speech or cry or anything. Are you fully determined to do even that? Why should I perform your marriage ceremony-is there any difference in me or anyone else doing it? Why not be light and free American-style, and go pick your own mate? Why not? You have tried that already and it didn't work, did it? You have a simple explanation-it is because no one can see an individual like I can. I can tell you a thousand different things about a person, whereas even after observing him for a long time you may be all wrong. I am thinking of having up to 4,000 couples matched by this year. Do you men miss women so much that you want to get blessed? Are men so vitally necessary to you women? Always in your mind you must think that the blessing is good preparation for the war of love. You are not marrying just anyone. You have to be sure that your spouse is quite ready to tackle this war of love; once you are sure he is, then you are ready to marry. When people get married in the usual way they first go on a honeymoon, but we are ready for "honeywar." Then when you get married and can travel together, that is "honey-sun." You have heard that soon we will have Deli Suns, which will be family-style fund raising. Definitely we will have a 4,000 couple blessing before the third seven-year course is over, and all the recent engagements are in preparation for that. After the third seven-year course I won't continue giving blessing in this way. By that time my own children and the blessed children will be of marrying age and I will concentrate on their marriages. During the time of restoration I have been giving blessings to everyone, but after the 21-year course I will not because the Principle won't allow that. According to Principle I have been giving blessings first to those in the external position and then later will concentrate more internally; that is the pattern. When I can give blessing to my own children, every blessed couple will rejoice as much as if they were really getting blessed this time. At that ceremony only blessed couples will he able to attend; single members will not be qualified.. This is not just a logical decision, but one made according to strictest heavenly law. Certainly by that time the day of persecution will be over. On this foundation I proclaimed the new era on February 23, 1977. In that new era there will he nothing for me to envy, either spiritual or physical-- no power, wealth or society-because l will be more prominent than all of them. God will never he able to give up the Unification Church; He may give up the world, but not the Unification Church. The coming of that age will he like turning the world upside down. So far even the best religious people have always been the underdogs, but now centering on the Unification Church we are almost equal, and as it keeps revolving we will he on top Then no area of government will have any excuse to investigate or persecute us. They have persisted in investigating for five years and found nothing. The day is coming when Congress will be blamed for doing injustice to us while not doing justice for America. This is why l told Col. Pak to file suits against various departments in government. We have the best lawyers working for us and there is much talk about these suits in legal circles. Some really righteous lawyers who have defended us in the past when they saw we had done nothing wrong and who received so much pounding themselves are now really excited about our legal actions. As I have told you many times before, we will now buy many jumbo jets. Once the world really understands the injustice that has been done to me, won't presidents come to apologize to me when I go to other countries? You will be my escort and I will take you with me on the jumbo jets. Imagine how they will receive us when the world finds out what we have had to go through. We have been persecuted incredibly, yet the Church grew and you grew individually as well. If there had been no persecution, how much faster would the Church have grown? There will be alumni meetings for all the different blessings, and the couples will gather from all over the world. When the American government hears of it the Immigration people will come to bow and welcome them and urge them to stay as long as they wish. By then Unification Church members won't need any visas to travel. They will be the champions in the war of love and there will be no one who can stand up against them. Citizens young and old will come out to applaud and respond. Don't you think this boom is inevitable one day? You have nothing to be ashamed of because you have already been persecuted, but what about the people who persecuted you? They will feel ashamed and want to hide. Is there any argument or force that can dissuade you from this coarse? Will you do more than you have been doing already? You can measure out units of thread according to how much you are persecuted, and eventually you will have as much as the hair in a horse's tail. By the time you have gone through much tribulation the world will be coming into unity all around you. Why does everyone like me regardless of their sex or age or religion? It is because I have fought every single war of love and I have a big assortment of fixtures so everyone can be hooked onto me. If I go tuna fishing this summer, who will volunteer to go with me? What about the women? I have only one boat and there is a limit to how many can get on it, so I will have more boats built for all of you to get on and we'll have an armada. We will have women as captains. Then you women would like your future husbands to be captains too, right? Does that mean you want to marry fishermen? Jesus told Peter he would be a fisherman: being a fisherman is not bad at all. Often American women are somewhat stronger than men, so I think the 200 mile limit was reserved by God for American women. I don't believe that, I know it! When you have a full boatload of fish I will recognize and accept you. Did you know we recently got a new property for our shipbuilding industry? What would you do to become rich? Fishermen in this nation are some of the poorest-paid professionals, so we will give the best schools and best living to fishermen. Now people visit the seashore for fun, but someday soon they will come to the sea to work and go to the mountains for recreation. If that trend doesn't appear automatically then I will create it. I will bring one woman and one man at a time to come fishing with me and the fish will come. Do you agree? Thank you. If I were to tell you all the small things that happened to me along this way, one month would never be enough to cover everything. Yet I have to finish my speech this morning in only a few hours. In 25 years the Unification Church has expanded so quickly that now there is no one who has not heard of Reverend Moon and the Unification Church, especially in America. Is there anyone who does not know? You think I am tops, but in the world I am thought to be the worst. Is the member who is coming from behind going to be on top, while the person already here sinks even lower? If someone who joins after you works much harder, he have to be elevated. This is why I am training you in how to witness to many people before that happens. Then you can go up and down as you like. Instead of needing someone to push you up, when you know there is a difficult task you will want to go and do it yourself in my place. If someone joins later then they will want to volunteer to do it for you, just as you do for me. But first you have to have the foundation which comes from witnessing to many people. We know that human history is the chronicle of restoration. What is the ultimate point of restoration? Of course it is home church. As home church becomes successful you go from level to level, and finally to the world; ultimately you take off' and even gravity won't hold you down. You may not know it yet, but this course is the miracle of miracles. The fact that I could announce the providence of home church within 25 years is a miracle; compare ] that to the little that Christians have achieved in I 2,000 years. God sent Jesus to earth for certain reasons, and ultimately Jesus died for that purpose. All of these events are culminated in home church, the center of the dispensation. Jesus left the key to heaven with Peter because everything had to be done on earth. To achieve this I gave everything I have, much more than you can ever imagine. You are to inherit that, both those who know its full value and those who don't know. this is where we are now. You won't have to break your back for 25 years to build this; from now on you will pick up the position of glory and harvest blessing equal to your hard work. God's intention is to let you inherit everything I have worked for; I will not get the glory directly. Your glory may reflect on me, but you will receive it directly. Imagine how the world climate has changed since I began. When I was fighting to make this foundation it was a bloody war, but your situation is one of welcome and the people will soon respond, even in a few days. From now on it will expand year after year. You are beginning to get the knack of home church now, aren't you? If you have 10,000 active home church members then all of New York respond and help you. Once New York responds, all of America will respond. This is no exaggeration; when America responds to God then the whole world will respond as well. I have already proclaimed New York as the front line. One of our brothers, Tom Ludwig, has been conductor of the New York Symphony and been guest conductor of famous orchestras, but he has put himself on the lowest level and now is scraping walls. I saw him yesterday helping with restoration and I felt good to see him working that way. It closely fits the description of the king of love. If I take off my tie and white shirt, I am a first-class worker. Recently I went to Barrytown, and even though the water was cold I waded in to catch fish and didn't feel it. Mother felt cold just watching me. Each one of us needs to be versatile like that. I know how to stir up a fight too; when two people are fighting I sometimes agitate to make them fight more. First I will determine whether the small one was right and then I will tell him he is entitled to fight. If the small man doesn't have the guts to fight then I will tell him to step out and fight in his place. If you see something wrong, you cannot just sit aside. If you are wrong then you should feel shame, but if you are right then you should never be defeated by any big guy. We should never compromise in the name of righteousness. Sometimes women are too quick to react and don't think so deeply, but there is much to learn by seeing how they react when someone prods them. Love has many forms. It is not love to leave a person alone if he does wrong things endlessly. If he is doing bad things then it is love to give him a big whack. This is why we are training in karate to have fists of love. If you see someone doing something wrong yet no one is taking action then you will go and confront him, and if you have trained yourself you can win. Love is not indifferent or mediocre. When you are right, you have to speak out. If you want, you can fight a duel and settle differences that way. I want you to know how to deal with violence too. If you don't, then your love will never be alive and vivid; you will just be cowardly. Don't strike first and then love later. First you love, and if the person doesn't respond then you strike him. That is allowed. You must know for sure how this works and how to combat with love. Then you will be refined in love. Now you know the situation and why you have to work hard in home church. Once you have laid the necessary foundation you should confront people and ask what wrong you have done and you can demand to know why they do not respond. Because you can rightfully protest, the power of righteousness work and they begin to help you. They will have to wonder about what wrong you have done, and then conclude they must help you. You must have many reasons to protest in case they do not respond, really trying hard by putting in long hours and doing impossible things, and then if they don't listen you can confront them with your record. The ways the government has persecuted us have all been recorded, and later on when you confront officials with the facts they will not be able to deny it. When the truth is revealed it will work to restore them by helping lead them to repentance. We I never remember all of that just to punish them later, I but to hasten their restoration. If they have to have a reason to repent then it will help them, so we are collecting reasons. Then they will live just as you have. Once you reach a certain standard then after three and a half years you can profoundly influence these people. That's how long it took me to collect basic information about Americans-what they like and how they live and so forth. Finally, after 25 years, there is no area in which I have not done everything I should have. I have pretty much done everything necessary. Some of you are more advanced than others, but basically you are r all just beginning: after you finish training you will carry on what you have learned. On this 25th anniversary, if you resolve to look ahead to the future and make today the beginning of your 25-year course, then this will be a very meaningful morning for you. If you deeply invest yourself in home church for 25 years knowing what you know now, what will you be like at the end? You will be like God to your people. That is what God and Jesus intend. By doing that you will be recognized before heaven and earth as having all of my value. Regardless of how difficult it is, you are still destined to participate in my glory. Every person has to do it, and if you know this and yet don't do it, what kind of person are you? When I had difficulties in those 25 years, God came to console me many times. When you follow my path then I will appear in dreams and visions to help show you the way. You won't even have to close your eyes to see such visions. Your home church members will see visions of me and of you also. When they are open like that then they will live eternally in the same spirit world, and realize they are to live as the same family. Love will open their eyes. You link that to your home church and they will link it to another home church, and yet another, and it will be an unbreakable chain of love which no one, not even God, can cut. This link will be directly sustained by the spirit world. Are we going to fight this war of love now? You don't have to take my word about this. You have your own faculties for testing whether this is true or not. How do you test it? Go beyond the things and people you were close to; if one of your home church members dies and you feel more sorrow than if your own parent had died, then see whether your people won't see visions. When you cry daily for their sake, see if they don't respond. You should have such deep feeling for them that you sometimes don't sleep at night for thinking about your home church people. If because you are thinking about them so much you don't even remember how long it was since you last ate, see whether what I have told you is wrong. Any standard less than that is inadequate. Without that kind of heart you can offer them the Divine Principle but they will not listen. There is strong love in the everyday world, but it is going in the wrong direction. You have to be able to love people more strongly before you can expect them to cut their old ties of love and come to you. Start loving them and start loving God. Certainly there is a barrier because of the fall and it is difficult to penetrate. You will never do it with a sharp object, but only with love. There are barriers on the individual, family and national level. You have to have love great enough to break the national level barrier? and even more for the world. You have to think constantly what you are going to do with America and the world, even talking to yourself like a crazy person. There have been many American patriots, but you have to go beyond their standard, always going higher and higher. After you pass their standard then things will become easier. There is a very concrete practical reason why we do this. If you are Abel then you need Cain, and only together with Cain can you come to God You cannot go to God alone, no matter how wonderful you are. Let this be the start of your future for the next 25 years. Think of nothing but home church and then you will accomplish God's dispensation. Then in 25 years America will be entirely restored, a big stake driven into the world as an anchor for God. As I have established all these invisible conditions the communist regimes have become divided and weakened. You are seeing signs now of internal communist division; China and Russia are hostile because certain conditions have been established. Who in America could really know that though? In the meantime I am gathering the godly nation, race and tribe, like a big river coursing along as many sources come together. In summary, I have been establishing the tradition of love. When this is established, liberation follows. For the first time America will be a free nation, and so will the world. Free from what? From wrong love. I want this to be the strong start of your new career; by visualizing the next 25 years ahead of you, let this be the very significant start for each of you. I want to let you march forward in the war of love with full commitment. A-man! God bless you.

День Истинных Родителей

6000 лет Бог искал небесную семью и восстановленное основание для появления Своей любви на земле. Утверждение Дня Истинных Родителей означает, что Бог в конце концов утвердил Своих первых сына и дочь в качестве Истинных Родителей человечества. Падшее человечество должно преисполниться радости и ликования, ведь благодаря появлению Дня Истинных Родителей люди теперь могут следовать за Истинными Родителями и служить им.

Отец — это первый и единственный человек за всю историю, который смог провозгласить День Истинных Родителей. На основе этого победного провозглашения Отец и Мать получили возможность создать на земле вечный семейный союз.

Представьте, если сможете, что вся земля покрыта водой; именно вода обычно символизирует падшее человечество. Тысячи лет назад один большой камень (представляющий собой жертвы святых и праведников) был заложен в океанские глубины. Глубоко внизу, на самом дне, медленно и болезненно один камень накладывался на другой, и таким образом строилось провидение восстановления. Однако на поверхности не было заметно ровным счетом ничего. В течение 6000 лет груда камней постепенно росла. И, в конце концов, в 1960 году появились первые видимые признаки проделанного титанического труда по восстановлению.

Отрывок из речи «Истинное владычество», произнесенной Отцом 11 июня 1963 года в День истинного творения:

«Вот какое значение имеет День Истинных Родителей: это первый день с момента создания Богом всего сущего и человечества, когда появились гармоничный мужчина и гармоничная женщина; их гармония — в любви, и теперь Бог может снизойти к ним и быть с ними по-настоящему. Первый раз за всю историю человечества на земле появился изначальный эталон брака, изначальное триединство. Начало всех идеалов Бога — найти совершенных мужчину и женщину, к которым Бог может снизойти. И теперь у нас есть Истинные Родители, которые любят так, как от них ожидает Бог. Они несут с собой любовь Бога. В речи «День Истинных Родителей и наша эпоха», произнесенной 5 апреля 1981 года, Отец рассказал о важности этого Святого дня:

«Сегодня — 22-й по счету День Родителей. Этот День был утвержден 10 апреля 1960 года (прим. ред. — по солнечному календарю). Затем последовали День Детей, День творения и День Бога. Если бы, по Принципу, Адам и Ева не пали, День Родителей и День Детей, День творения и День Бога были бы основаны одновременно. И тогда, разумеется, не было бы нужды в истории восстановления. А теперь из-за грехопадения дети никак не связаны с родителями, и все сущее не связано ни с родителями, ни с детьми, ни с Богом. Иными словами, в нашем мире не было никаких истинных родителей.

Спасение также означает освобождение четырех небесных дней. Их первоисточником должен стать не кто иной, как Бог. Первый День Родителей ознаменовал начало перехода из старого мира в новый. Этот переход — не просто концепция; в течение 21 года с момента основания первого Дня Родителей мир кардинально изменился. За всю историю не было ни одного похожего периода, и теперь этот переход неизбежно должен завершиться».

День Истинного Бога

Из-за грехопадения люди не смогли осуществить три благословения Бога. Человечество также не смогло достичь ни совершенства, ни идеала личности, супружеской пары, родителей, детей и владык; все это восстановили Истинные Родители. На основании Дня Родителей, Дня Детей и Дня творения Истинные Родители провозгласили День Бога 1 января 1968 года. Если бы Адам и Ева достигли совершенства, они получили бы Божье Благословение. Этот день стал бы днем радости для Бога; он и стал бы Днем Бога. Бог тосковал по Своим сыновьям и дочерям, и День Бога стал днем ликования, ведь Он так обрадовался появлению Своих сына и дочери!

Достигнув положения совершенных истинных родителей, Адам и Ева основали бы День Родителей. Этот день стал бы и первым Днем Детей. Совершенные Адам и Ева также стали бы истинными владыками и провозгласили бы День творения. В этом смысле день их Благословения стал бы одновременно и Днем Бога, и Днем Родителей, и Днем Детей, и Днем творения. Однако в процессе восстановления эти четыре дня должны были провозглашаться один за другим, и последним был провозглашен День Бога.

В каждой стране есть свои праздники. К примеру, на Западе есть праздники типа Дня отца и Дня матери. Однако никому и в голову не приходило отмечать День Бога или вообще учредить такой праздник. Религиозные лидеры делали множество провозглашений, но ни один из них не обратил никакого внимания на столь очевидное упущение. Ведь День Бога должен был стать самым важным праздником!

В полуночной речи в День Бога в 1980 году под названием «Домашняя церковь — основа Царства Небесного» Отец рассказал о значении Дня Бога:

«Как вы знаете, грехопадение человека произошло на завершающем этапе стадии роста. Вот почему за тот семилетний путь, который нам с Матерью пришлось пройти, мы должны были пересечь стадию роста и подняться на стадию завершения. Именно в этот период я восстановил и утвердил День Родителей, День Детей и День творения».

Отец также высказался на тему Дня Истинного Бога на утренней службе 1 января 1984 года, посвященной Дню Истинного Бога:

«Гражданами новой нации станет молодежь всего мира. Истинный Отец призвал молодых людей всей земли и благословил их как новое племя, дав им возможность унаследовать новое родословие, родословие Небес. Они станут новыми мужчинами и новыми женщинами, новыми супружескими парами, и затем — гражданами этой новой нации. Пока Бог присутствует в нашей жизни на личном, семейном и родовом уровнях. Поэтому мы можем отмечать День Бога на уровне личности, семьи и рода. Но нам нужно отметить этот праздник и на уровне нации и мира! Вот к какой цели мы стремимся. Аминь!»

В речи от 1 января 1983 года, данной на утренней службе в честь Дня Истинного Бога, Отец поделился своими размышлениями о Дне Истинного Бога:

«Что это за день — День Бога? Для Бога это очень хороший и радостный день. Он хотел бы в этот день повстречаться с хорошими людьми. Он также хотел бы дать вам Свое благословение и отпраздновать этот День вместе с вами, но, к сожалению, у Него нет никого, кто был бы достоин такого благословения. По всему миру люди празднуют первый день года, но лишь члены Церкви Объединения в этот день отмечают День Бога. Поэтому Бог в этот день хочет быть с вами. Мы должны праздновать День Бога с уверенностью и удовлетворением. До этого ни разу за всю историю у Бога не было шанса полностью проявить Свою любовь. День Бога дает Ему возможность одарить любовью Своих детей. Бог так долго страдал, ожидая такой возможности! Любовь, которая должна была принадлежать исключительно Богу, была осквернена и украдена сатаной. С тех пор сатана злоупотреблял ею и извращал ее в своих собственных целях. Бог отчаянно ждал того дня, когда любовь будет очищена и возвращена Ему. И, наконец, такой момент восстановления настал.

Чтобы сделать приношение, вам понадобится алтарь. Люди очень переменчивы в душе; их постоянно бросает вверх-вниз, от взлетов к падениям. Оно становится даром всего сущего, даром детей и вашим собственным даром.

Перед Днем Бога вы должны раскаяться во всех своих неблагочестивых поступках и начисто от них избавиться. Если у вас были ссоры в семье, помиритесь и создайте гармонию в отношениях до начала празднования. Вам нужно сделать приношение своих детей; если же они недостойны, они не могут явиться на празднование Дня Бога. Библия учит, что перед тем, как сделать приношение Богу, нужно пойти и помириться с ближними; иначе невозможно удостоиться чести сделать приношение Богу».

Отец рассказывал о том, каким был бы изначальный День Истинного Бога, в своей речи «О значении четырех главных церемоний», данной 1 января 1973 года:

«Если бы Адам и Ева достигли совершенства, не имея ничего общего с грехопадением или грехом, тот день, когда они достигли бы зрелости, стал бы самым радостным днем и для Бога, и для человека. В этот счастливейший день их жизни Бог благословил бы их на брак. Этот день стал бы началом счастливой семейной жизни. В этом случае их семья представляла бы собой все семьи будущего как победное единство двух представителей противоположного пола, достигших совершенства. Таким образом, этот день стал бы счастливым и для Бога, и для всего сущего. Это и был бы День Бога. Бог вознесся бы на вершину блаженства вместе с супругами, и архангелы тоже были бы счастливы. Все творение разделило бы всю радость с Богом. Это и был бы День Бога, в который Бог стал бы безумно счастлив! Получив в такой день Благословение на святой брак, наши первые прародители стали бы Истинными Родителями для будущего человечества. Бог гордился бы Своими детьми, занявшими такое положение, и все творение радостно приветствовало бы мужчин и женщин, достигших совершенства, и приняло бы их владычество над собой. В соответствии с Принципом творения этот день одновременно стал бы Днем Бога, Днем Детей и Днем творения».

We all understand that prayer is an indispensable element in religious life. Being a religious group, we emphasize prayer. Why? In a word, it is because we haven't fulfilled everything, and because we are not fully equipped to do everything we need to do. From earliest times mankind has been praying, and we can conclude it is because man has not fulfilled what he has wished for.

There are all different levels of prayer, about the individual, family, tribe and so forth. Then why hasn't the purpose of man's religious life already been fulfilled? We know prayer was necessitated by the fall; man is trying to accomplish something left undone by the fall. Whose fault was the fall, God's or man's? We must make sure, because if it wasn't done by the first ancestors of mankind, then some people somewhere must be perfect. If it was true that some individuals became perfect, but a family broke up, then we wouldn't have to pray about the individual. But we know there is no one who is perfect, so the fall must have been caused by the first man and woman.

Then why did the first ancestors fall? Man did not go in the direction God desired; by going in another direction man fell, so where is man's liberty and free will? Before modern times did mankind have liberty? Western countries cherish freedom, especially since the Renaissance. Then where is this freedom to be found?

It is not really freedom to have liberty and then always walk backward, or just do anything you like. In the same way it is not natural to use just one eye, or to plug one ear and listen with the other. Freedom which does not satisfy the Principle is not really freedom. Will freedom be obtained by fulfilling necessary conditions, or does it just come along?

Is freedom necessary for its own sake, or in order to fulfill the ideal? Is freedom itself the ideal? No. It is valuable only because it is necessary for fulfilling the ideal. Actually it is the ideal to be natural in a way that cannot be accused. For example, it is ideal for eyes to blink once in a while; it is torture for eyes not to blink.

The ideal has a direction and freedom has a direction. Human life has a direction; we don't just live aimlessly. Just as an individual has a direction in life, so does history, even though it may seem to move haphazardly. We can even say that God has a certain direction and purpose. When something has an objective, then it has a direction to go in. You got up early this morning and something in your mind kept pointing you toward Belvedere, so now you are sitting here. The fact that you have assembled here shows that you are united in wanting to go a step further in a certain direction, to a higher level.

By meeting True Parents in the morning you come into unity, to see a new direction and really go forward. A succession of this kind of event is what we call development. A person strives for the ideal as an individual, and then moves onto other levels. One result of the fall is that mankind lost direction, and that's how man has been living for thousands of years. The world is in confusion, not knowing where to go or how to find an example.

In order for something to move it has to have energy; that power is just as necessary in human history as in nature. In the confrontation between Russia and America we see that the more powerful of the two pushes the less powerful. Where does this power come from? It is greatest for the nation that has a clear sense of direction.

Power also stems from unity among a nation's people. America is a nation divided internally, with individuals just going their own way and not caring about unity or direction. How about the Unification Church? It has a completely different outlook because it has a different direction and it has unity. Your unity with True Parents is so strong that your parents get upset.

What should we pay most attention to? We unite because we have a certain direction toward a higher level. You have to know whether you have a precise direction, not just an idea of one. It seems true that in the garden of Eden God had a direction. The fall basically meant that God said, "Let's go this way, and man said, "No, let's go this way." So who should follow whom? Why wouldn't it be just as well for God to follow man?

The subject-object situation was absolutely necessary for God, and under the law of creation the subject is always followed by the object. The fall meant that this law was not observed, and today mankind doesn't even know there is such a thing as subject and object. Today many women think they are able to be subject. We know that starting with God and the first ancestors there is subject and object; the subject must love the object, which follows, and they must come into unity by following a clear direction. While they move in that direction they can come into unity.

In history we see that there is a force which is rearranging the confusion of society and directing man toward a certain purpose. Without power or energy we cannot move at all. Certainly some force was necessary for the natural world to come into being, and in history some power has always led men to a desirable direction. It is a realistic conclusion to say that all things are done through energy, or force.

Where does power come from? Power results only from action and reaction. To accomplish a huge task, a huge amount of power is needed, which requires a huge action and response. Before the universe has power it must have the right situation and response. When we eat food it enters the stomach, and when it becomes one with the body it gives us power. Power can only result from action. For example, the response to the food is digestive action. Even scientists recognize that there is great power in the universe, but they fail to recognize that great action preceded that power.

If you really look into what must precede action, you will find that subject and object are absolutely necessary. It is easy to see this principle at work in the natural world. We know that the Divine Principle is wonderful, and one of the key realizations it contains is this deep understanding for the necessity of subject and object; we can deeply know the dual essentialities of God through this point.

Starting with subject and object as the base, we have give and take. Then we can see that they fulfill the four position foundation, through which they attain all their beauty. When this is fulfilled in a sequence of steps, it has direction and unity and purpose. The subject and object relationship clearly comes first with a certain purpose to achieve, so it has precise direction. Unification Church women have a certain ideal and purpose, and thus have a certain direction. More concretely, women have an individual purpose, plus a purpose leading to men. Centering on yourself you have a purpose as subject, and also as object. Why do women have two purposes, instead of just one? This is because women resemble God, who happens to have duality; because subject and object want to get together, you have two purposes.

When subject and object come into oneness, they can go to a higher level and form a subject-object relationship with a higher being. Then when they form unity they in turn will become object to a higher-level subject.

First you have mind and body as an individual, each of which have a purpose, so within you there are dual purposes. They vaguely correspond in direction, but nevertheless they are distinct. How do they coordinate with each other? It all happens within the foundation of four positions, with give and take action going round and round. Within an individual it is always the mind that directs the body, not vice versa. Is that relationship the result of receiving a high-level college education, or were you just born with it? That is taking place every day within each of us. The power within the universe moves in the same way, just as a tornado or typhoon finds an appropriate path.

Often the body seems not to hear, however. Until you understand this principle you might have room for going a different way, but once you know this is how the whole universe operates then you know your body should follow your mind at all times. This is where power will come from, so having a clear idea of subject and object will help revolutionize your individual life, family life, and so forth. Is this just fine talk, or do you feel this is really the secret of your being?

We know that for many years mankind did not understand this because the fall confused this basic concept for man. The archangel had a relationship of object to God, but he failed to observe the right direction. The archangel's idea of purpose became different from God's idea, so their relationship and direction became separate and unity was not obtained.

It is important to know clearly about subject-object relations. In the communist countries they say the capitalists exist for the workers, but they totally fail to understand who is subject, the worker, or whoever runs the company? In your idea who is it? Right or wrong, the owner is in position of subject. In the four position foundation we have God, the owner, workers and company, so the owner has to have relationships in two directions. The worker will be in the object position, but on an equal level with the subject. The nation is moving in a certain direction, so the worker as object and factory-owner as subject will move together in that same direction. This principle is the only reason for anyone to pay taxes. In the same way, there are a leader and citizens in America and they must go in the direction the country desires. Even within the individual the same pattern will be found, though in a smaller scale.

Now we have learned that fulfillment of the purpose of the ideal is found in the four position foundation. You have two eyes, an optical nerve, and a point of focus in your vision; together they form a four position foundation. Air enters through two nostrils; you hear through two ears. We have to be aware of the subject position, realizing there is such a thing as an object, and then we can have purpose, direction, and unity.

The communist ideology is founded on the idea that there is no such thing as subject or object, no such thing as purpose, and thus no direction or unity necessary in human life. If a communist concedes that any of these elements must be present, then he has denied the whole communist philosophy. Their typical view of a subject-object relationship is understood only in terms of fighting: through conflict they become one! In this thinking, then, men and women must fight before they can have unity. They say that mind and body have to fight in order to find unity.

They view the material world as subject, and say that the existence of the mind is only accidental. It really is a satanic outlook on life, inverting the actual universal Principle. The direction communist countries set for the individual and nation is one of fighting. Of course they say they want to unify the whole world under communism, but they also say that blood must be shed before that can happen.

This is exactly how they are thinking and this activity cannot be forgiven. It not only goes against the direction of history, but also against the law of existence in the universe.

As long as the communists have no clear objective to reach after their revolution, and they only fight in the name of progress, then they make no sense at all. They say something good will probably happen after the fighting, but actually they have no clear idea of what they will become. Now the communists in different nations are fighting among each other. But unless there can be unity, how can the ideal come into being?

What we have here in Unification Church is founded on solid rock. In the history of the universe, where is the subject and object? Is it God and man together who have to create history? Can America say that it has been prosperous without God, and just continue on its way? If we learn from what happened in history, we won't make the same mistake. No great empire or nation knew beforehand that it would collapse. Individuals can do a certain amount, but after that they are helpless.

People today have stopped pursuing the ideal, saying that things like religion aren't necessary, and they indulge in sensual excitement as a way of life. No person has met more persecution than I have; whenever I spoke up the commotion began, in the churches, the government, every place. No one else has ever met so much persecution and survived. How did I do it? I am the only one who lived according to natural law, moving in the same direction as the universe. Thus, I prospered more and more.

Eventually America will have to listen to me, and even though the President may not recognize me, this nation will eventually believe me. Even in daily life am I a success or failure? I do not take great pride in what I know, or manipulate people. I get out and set the example of how to live. But I will never try to compromise the Principle; whatever is the Principle way, I do. What makes me different from anyone in the world is my notion of subject and object. That is very serious and very strong. I follow the same direction God does. I have a clear view of the future of the world, and an objective to go toward, and I will never compromise that. I am all for bringing everything into unity. As long as someone is a son or daughter of God, he will come into unity centering on God.

Why do you find yourself here in Unification Church? You don't eat delicious food here, and you can't sleep as much as you want; people don't even respect you. What do you have here anyway? Your purpose for being here is to be like a rock upon which God can rebuild the world. God is pounding on you to make you tempered steel. Do you know about the process of making Japanese swords? The metal is put in the fire and then beaten, again and again. That is what is happening to you year after year. Everyone who mistreats you helps in this process. In order for you to have great power you must have much give and take action, and being pounded on is part of that action.

I start many new things because I am not interested in just one area. That's how my life has always been. I started training myself much earlier than you did. I know what it takes to train a person because I have gone through the same things. Is it bad or good that I want you to be stronger than me? You have a difficult time being pounded, but I who am doing the pounding also have a difficult time. The name of the game is who gives up first! All you have to do is survive until I give up.

Would you feel that your children cannot be greater than you? Though you are the parent, you will want them to be better than you because you know your own deficiencies. You always think that I will give you more assignments to make you work hard. In your mind you think that you don't question whatever I do, but you wonder if you can really work harder. You awkwardly conclude that you love me but feel that Unification Church life is too hard, that it is too hard to be object to the subject. You might want me to listen to the object once in a while.

You and your ancestors are used to the American life and maybe you think I don't understand Americans. I always have a reason for what I do, so should you listen to me, or me to you? God has a definite idea whether I should listen to Him or He should listen to me. The whole universe centers around the positions of subject and object; an equally strong law is that the object must follow subject. Is the whole thing clear to you?

Maybe you ask if it would be better to follow a religion with an easier course, like Buddhism or Hinduism. There are not even chairs to sit on here. On the coldest winter day you always sat on a cold concrete floor, but just recently you have been provided with a carpet to sit on. In any other church you sit on pews to listen to short sermons, and feel that the other church members are interested in your problems. They will never make you fund raise! The minister will warmly shake your hand and come visit you, but I don't do that.

In light of all this, why do you make a determination that you must do even more? It is because such thinking perfectly conforms to the Principle. Whether other people approve or not, we go on because it is the right thing to do. Even though you may not have gone to college, you know what contribution I have made to history. By myself I have brought thousands of people closer to God.

Other people say we cannot ever compare the Creator to His creations. But the purpose of religion is to bring God and man together, and I have brought this lofty idea of God into living reality and lifted man all the way up to heaven. We can live with God in our daily life, not just in concept. God is the subject over our daily life, over where we will go, and over where America will go and where history will go 10,000 years from now.

We have to be serious about subject-object relations all the time, in every part of life. We are on the right track, and if we just keep going we will reach the ideal. That is our destiny. It really matters little whether it is agreeable to or approved by others. It would be easier if I didn't have to take the Unification Church along with me, but not only that, eventually I must bring the entire world. The same tears that roll down my face should roll down your faces; what's good-tasting to me should taste good to you also.

You and I eat different food; I sleep on my back, while you sleep on your stomach. I even speak a different language, but our tears and our hearts should be the same, whether white, black or yellow. This is our common denominator and meeting point.

Now you know that you need much power, so you need much action. Before you can come into action you must establish clearly defined subject-object relationships. With that power you will go toward a purpose, in a specific direction. Finally the whole thing will come into unity on a higher level, and ultimately everyone will unite on the highest level. This is a precise summary of what I have told you this morning. Is there any fault in this?

In order for there to be power it is absolutely necessary for subject and object to come into good action. If one eye sees clearly and the other eye sees dimly, can they focus well? Then the four position foundation will not be formed in a correct way.

If you work in many directions then after successful give and take action you will have much power. That means you need many subject-object relationships, both as subject and as object. You don't generate action for its own sake, but with a purpose in mind. Once you come into perfect unity with America and it responds, then you will go toward the world. Then the world will come within your embrace and become one. Once the world becomes our object, we are ready to form a perfect relationship with God as subject and the world as object.

Then what belongs to God is yours, and what is yours is God's. There is no such thing as division in that case. All is done with love, and then the whole process will be finished. Then our laughter will never cease for eternity. Definitely the universe will develop according to this principle. Communists insist that their doctrine will continue eternally, but actually at some point it must join forces with our doctrine. When we reach this goal, the communists will be connected to us.

This will take place when subject and object become harmonious in every way and the whole universe comes into perfect unity centering on God. One force will act and another respond; one will go up, then down, in and out, and so forth. With each force alternately pushing, the universe will go around. When a child's top is spinning slowly it wobbles, but when it is whirling quickly it stands perfectly in place. In the same way, when the forces acting on the universe are perfectly balanced, it whirls in place.

Today's human knowledge reveals that the universe is expanding, but doesn't show that it also contracts, or comes back in again. It doesn't just repeat a certain static pattern but goes in a vertical field or sphere. Then why is the earth round, for instance? Because it is in perpetual motion of horizontal and vertical. That's the principle of the universe in action.

Where would I go after I finish my work in America and the world? I would go back to my hometown. Always you can think that the first place you will go when you succeed is back to your native land. Why? Because of this universal principle I have just described.

You breathe by inhaling and exhaling. Air is not stationary; it constantly moves in areas of low and high pressure because of this principle. You might want to stay on the level you have been brought up in, and wonder why you should go to the national and world level. It is because the only way to perfect oneself is to perfect the world; there is an indivisible relationship between the two.

You all want to be the most important person in the world, whether you are qualified or not. There is no one who would refuse that. When we reach the world level, without fail it will come back again, completing a circle of action. The world will turn on an axis which links God and earth. Even though there may be a plus and minus, however, without love the axis will not come into being. The Unification Church must have an idea of individual perfection, but without also having an ideal of world perfection the individual cannot reach his goal. Though it might take us millions of years, this is the way we have to go.

We can achieve hundreds of times more here on earth than in spirit world. This is why we are so fortunate to know the will of God today. When we reach up to fulfill all levels of unity, we will start experiencing God's love; this is where He beckons us to come.

Now let me return to the question of why we have to pray. From the point of the fall we have to reach up to that point, and then eventually we will reach the center. When the axis is placed firmly and give and take action can take place, then the ideal horizontal way will follow almost immediately.

We have to have a definite idea about God and His grandchildren. God's objective was not limited to Adam and Eve. God has a triple objective purpose, of three purposes and three objects. The four positions are necessary as a foundation for action and maneuver. God is the almighty subject, but He is not happy alone, so in order to move He had to have objects. This is why He created man and woman.

But those three are not complete either. Since God wanted to move in spherical motion, He needed the fourth position, to form a south pole to His north pole. Subject and object were divided in order to take after God's own image. If plus and minus have give and take, another being of plus and minus is bound to come into being. For these purposes God needed grandchildren. Without having the fourth position, man could only have two objects. If he did not have three objects like God did, then he could not be elevated to the same level as God, or become His perfect object.

Thus, even for Adam and Eve's triple objective purpose children were inevitable. In achieving that they could become the same as God. Even the children have the triple objective purpose fulfilled. Now we know the reason man absolutely needs woman, woman absolutely needs man, and both absolutely need children. This is the law of creation of the universe.

The gay movement is very fashionable in this country. Men and men decide to marry each other and forget about women. You have to know why that could never create the ideal. When parents love children, they form the same pattern as they do in loving God, and they represent God's love. Children loving parents is the same as mankind loving God. For children to love their parents is the same as their loving God. God's loving His grandchildren is the same as His loving Adam and Eve. By loving Adam, Eve loves God and children at the same time. The same goes for man when he loves Eve, he loves God and children as well. Now we know we definitely need man, we definitely need woman and children, but we also need God.

For God this is the ideal of man, woman and children because it includes love. Some people say they don't want children, but they must know they really do need children. If a woman doesn't have children, she might as well not have a bosom. Do women have bosoms for themselves, or for someone else? Korean women are careful to hide their bosoms, but when they are breastfeeding their children they don't care who is around to see. A Korean woman might think she is justified in this openness because God wants to see it. You have seen the practice of American women in this matter. A bosom becomes less valuable when it is shown to everyone all the time. Why do men have broad shoulders? To work hard a man needs good muscles and strong build.

When you look at the world with this basic knowledge, you can know instantly what is going on. If you have a firm knowledge of what I have just told you then you can evaluate what is right and wrong with people, and also with yourself. Now you know how nice is the ideal of the four position foundation. Everything is included in it. The elements are subject and object, direction, purpose, unity. There the ideal is fulfilled.

Applied to your situation, you fundamentally have mind and body. Can women say they only need God and then go into a monastery? Can men say they don't need women? Woman has to find a man. As soon as a woman has mind and body in complete unity centered on a direction and purpose, then she has to trot along to a man. When a man as subject and a woman as object become completely one, they form the four position foundation with their children. When that is accomplished they can bring society into unity, then the nation and the world and spirit world as well. Then they return to God. We originated from God and then eventually we return to God.

What does a person leave behind? The only thing he leaves is love. As soon as your mind and body come into unity then you love your spouse, your family, your country and then the world and universe. Then finally you return to God. Maybe you start out quietly, but when you love everything and return to God you do so with great laughter.

This is the only way God can be happy, you can be happy, and all other elements can be happy as well. Since it is so important that woman meet man, when Unification Church women marry they never have more than one husband. Once a couple are united perfectly then they immediately take on a higher subject. American men always follow American women, don't they? Do American women want to lead or follow American men?

Your ideal as an individual is not sufficient; only after fulfilling dual ideals are you in conformity with the universe. If a plus never wants to unite with a minus then eventually it will be eliminated by the universe. A plus cannot remain as a plus all the time and still be in motion eternally. Now in America men and women want to stay single. According to universal law should this practice be perpetuated or eliminated? This is not what I say, but what the universe says. Do women want to have a man so that they can become smaller or bigger? Your spouse is a bridge, without whom you cannot love the universe, whether as plus or minus.

Then why do we have to pray? If you are not altogether sure who your subject is then you have to pray. Whether they realize it or not, all mankind is looking for the absolute positive subject. That is God. Before we pray, we ask whether we have established ourselves as absolute objects to the absolute subject. Once you are sure your position is sound, then you make sure you are an absolute object, and then you can follow whatever God says. It's not conditional based on what God does for you, but means doing 100% whatever the perfect subject says. This is how we have to be established.

A prayer asking to be shown the existence of God will never have power. First you have to establish yourself as absolute object to the absolute subject and then have direction of absolute obedience. Living things want to go their own way, especially Americans, and especially American women! Only on the basis of the absolute law which God created will He respond to our communication. God hears, without exception, but cannot always answer.

If you are disregarding the direction while you ask God to answer, He cannot answer even though He hears you. There must be direction, from the individual, the family, and nation to the world. You also need faith that you as a small minus, an individual, can be as big as the absolute plus. Though a magnet is small, it responds the same as a big magnet does. Now that we know what He would like the world to be, we can pray to God that regardless of the persecution, we have no objection: "God, I will give up everything that is important to me and care about your purpose." Then God will respond to us.

First we have to become one with God in His purpose, and after that help our poor family, nation and world. If you say to God, "Let us two get together and forget about the world," nothing will happen. But if God hears you praying for absolute faith to become one with Him and do His work, God cannot deny that. The Messiah opens the way in place of mankind, all by himself. After he achieves that, he will inherit everything, and on that foundation can bequeath the course he has achieved, which you know is home church. Now you know the right direction to go.

If a person prays that he has listened to me and agrees, but just cannot do anything, then God cannot help him. God works only by the Principle, which states that man has to find his own way. Now you know the direction of prayer.

Rather than pray about your household, when you pray about the world your children are already included. One thing for sure, whatever we pray for, God will fulfill, though it may take some time. The only problem is whether man will carry on and persevere until God fulfills. God will never forget, but man is always going up and down.

I am now praying about things to happen in a thousand years, and I pray that I will continue until those things are finished. You may feel you have prayed deeply about something yet God did nothing, but that is not the case. He may not have achieved it through you but through someone else, and you just haven't seen it. But always in time those things will come back to you. Because the universe goes around, either you will find that event or it will find you.

A typical churchgoer prays usually for his family, or at best for his nation, but hardly ever for the world; people today just don't pray for God's will. Again, your primary concerns are subject and object, direction and purpose. Whatever we do, as long as it is to achieve a certain purpose, it will be there and nothing will be wasted.

From the time you achieve that purpose you will be elevated one step higher, praying for the sake of mankind and the universe and eventually meeting God. This is God's desire too, so if you pray like that then certainly God will fulfill it. If He doesn't then He isn't fulfilling His own purppse. When you have a high objective and ideal for which you pray, God will meet you when you achieve it. Certainly He will appear and reveal what you should do after that. People commonly ask why God doesn't love them, but only after we achieve our purpose can God truly give His love. He has to give His love when we arrive at the higher subject-object relationship which He needs so much.

With this basic knowledge I can know precisely where in history today's world is, and what a country's destiny is. When America doesn't do what it ought to then difficulties will come to it even within a few weeks. Its trouble is love. When, as a perfect object to the perfect subject, you pray for God's own purpose then God will listen to every word. That's the one thing you won't have to worry about. Of course a small prayer will bear fruit more quickly, but a far-reaching prayer will come back to your descendants, or to the Church. Sometimes I pray for something and ask for it to be achieved in 10,000 years. By the time that prayer is fulfilled my boundary of love will be enormous.

Finally, when we pray we must act and carry it out. If you pray about a content often then you should act to a level of fifteen. Then God will be right behind you, even though you cannot see Him, supplying you with power. If this is an actual law then how can you get tired? Even if you have worked hard for many years and just became engaged, you shouldn't be concerned if you don't have a chance to be with your fiancé as much as you would like. What kind of life you live and in what direction you go is more important than your fiancé. Do you pray at all?

Perhaps you have been down for a while, and then feel that you have to make some resolve because you just can't go on like that. There are times when you are breaking your back witnessing or fund raising, yet even at that time you have to repent. You are in a minus position to the huge plus of economic work, for instance. Wherever you go you have to grasp quickly the subject-object relationships you find there.

In witnessing, Abel is plus and Cain is minus, and you have to unite them. Even though the minus may be more powerful than you are, somehow you have to make that relationship work like it should. Because God is right behind you, it will work. That is the process of re-creation, and reversing the tide always involves difficulty. Because of love, God had a happy mind when He first created the world, even though it might have been a difficult job. The purpose is what matters, so we can do difficult things with a happy mind. God sees all of us together as one individual, so each one must really try to come into unity with the group; the most effective way is to cherish the person beside you. If you truly have that feeling then the whole congregation will be united.

If you feel you are needed and are living for the congregation then the meaning of the whole church will become very clear and you can give everything for the sake of the whole. That is the process of re-creation. When you truly do that then you will become a subject and others will really like and respect you. Once you are accustomed to this basic pattern of life then you don't have to pray so much because everything you do is prayer. Once you pray, God will just reply, "Go ahead and do it." Now and then you would pray to make sure that what you are doing is what God wants and the universe wants; then you can pray for power if you are worn out.

Sometimes you don't want to go on unless some immediate need is fulfilled, such as food. Then either you could eat and go on, or you could get mad and tell the food that it is your enemy at that moment. Then your body's need for food will gradually subside. You know you can go on for seven days without food, but actually it is rare that you have nothing available to you for that long. If your fiancé is somehow blocking your way then you have to chase that barrier away. If your clothing hinders you then you have to turn against it. Maybe you felt energetic all the time before coming to Unification Church, but after being a member for a long time you feel drained. Now you know how you lost power.

I have had the experience of wishing I hadn't said some things in prayers, and in order to nullify those words I fasted for weeks. Such is the power of prayer.

Should you pray for your fiancé, or just go straight for the sake of the world? Actually there is little you can do about your fiancé if you are worried. God knows what he needs better than you do. You might think your husband or wife-to-be doesn't care about you, but he or she has a higher being to love and dedicate his heart to. Once he achieves that, he has to return and love you anyway. All you have to do is wait for that time and tag along in obedience meanwhile.

In your case you can tell me that since I know so much more about prayer than you that I should do the praying and you will just follow what I say. That attitude and action are as meaningful as your individual prayer. Then you won't complain if I push you to work hard. Actually 90% of prayer is not about doing this or that, because you and God already know what must be done. 90% of prayer is repentance. This parallels Jesus' teaching to repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Repentance is very valuable if you do it correctly.

Other people don't have to see you repent and work hard. When you work according to your repentance then your goal is getting nearer. If you walk many miles in one day and it gets dark but you want to walk even ten steps further before you collapse and rest, that is better than counting up what you did and calculating you can reasonably stop until tomorrow. Always you should stretch yourself to the maximum.

Do you pray? How do you pray? If your prayer is centered mostly on personal requests, it is neither valuable nor powerful. Now you know how to pray. I understand that you want to pray about yourself, and there is one way to do that. You might introduce where you are precisely, saying, "Father, I am one part of womankind, a representative of all women. I know the world is more important than myself, but in order to reach the world I have to have a spouse and family so I can fulfill your desire." In that way you can ask God for an ideal spouse.

Sometimes you are much too self-centered and want individual advancement. God just cannot listen to that prayer. The first thing is to determine what your direction is and to work toward the goal, repenting in daily religious life. God will always listen to the needs of such a person. Now you have a precise idea about prayer. I have followed this principle so closely that if I wanted to pray in an unprincipled way, my mouth wouldn't even open. Then I would know God was going in a different direction.

When I just close my eyes momentarily, I know which way God wants me to go. If you live like I do then God will always be near you and always around your family. Our purpose is to nourish that kind of family, In that respect prayer is very necessary. Your life right now should be one of uniting with each other and praying for the sake of the world. When a wife is working very hard should the husband be idle and the children playing all the time? No, all should go in unison.

From now on you should pray about going in the direction God desires, checking to see if what you do is acceptable. Praying in any other manner is not acceptable.
